It seems round but it is like an egg and it seems like that somebody took a big slice of it off! The COLOSSEUM has many arches and those on the ground level show numbers carved on their keystones so the spectator knew which was his gate. Tough men, the gladiators, performed deadly combats and fought wild animals here for 400 years!
The legend reports that, 1400 years ago, the plague was killing many people in Rome. Pope Gregory decided to ask God for some help and, while walking and praying through the streets, he saw an angel right over the Castle putting his sword back into the sheath: shortly afterwards the plague finished. Now that Castle is named CASTLE SANT’ANGELO
SAINT PETER BASILICA features some great records: it is the largest church in the world, it took 120 years to build it, it is topped by the biggest dome in the world, the square in front of it can house 100 thousand people and, if you stand in a certain point, many of the columns seem to disappear. Too many records not to go and see it!
Please note: during the high season the security line outside St. Peter Basilica may be very long.
